Tire load index chart

The number after the size, as pounds and kilograms per tire.

The load index is the number after the size and stands for the most weight one tire can carry at its maximum pressure: for example 94 = 670 kg (1,477 lb) and 100 = 800 kg (1,764 lb). Replacement tires should meet your vehicle’s required load index.

Kilogram values are the standard load index table as published in the Tire code article, with spot checks (85 = 515 kg, 96 = 710 kg, 100 = 800 kg) against a second tire reference. Pounds are the kilograms × 2.20462, rounded. Dual ratings such as 121/118 on light-truck tires give the load for single and dual fitment. The load index is also on your vehicle’s door placard or manual: use it, not a general table, to choose a tire.

Calculated from the size alone. Real tires vary a little by brand and model, and the loaded radius is a bit smaller. Confirm the wheel width range, clearance, load index and speed rating for your vehicle. See how to read a tire size, the load index chart and the speed rating chart.

FAQ

What does the 94 in 265/70R17 94T mean?

It is the load index. 94 is 670 kg (1,477 lb) per tire at the maximum rated pressure.

Can I use a lower load index?

Do not go below the load index your vehicle maker specifies.

What is a dual load index like 121/118?

The first number is the load when the tire is used singly and the second when it is part of a dual (pair) setup.
